INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) VISUAL ARTS HIGHER LEVEL (HL)
On this page is the artwork I made for my International Baccalaureate Visual Arts Higher Level class. IB Art HL is a two year highly intensive course to be taken during the student's junior and senior year of high school. It is a thought-provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers. In addition to exploring and comparing visual arts from different perspectives and in different contexts, students are expected to engage in, experiment with and critically reflect upon a wide range of contemporary practices and media. The course is designed for students who want to go on to study visual arts in higher education as well as for those who are seeking lifelong enrichment through visual arts.
Students must make art through a process of investigation, thinking critically and experimenting with techniques. Students apply identified techniques to their own developing work and must produce a body of artwork through a process of reflection and evaluation, showing a synthesis of skill, media and concept. At end of the student's senior year of high school, 8-12 studio pieces, an essay consisting of 1000 words, a 300 word Candidate statement and 20-25 pages from the Investigative Workbook must be submitted to IB for evaluation, graded on a scale of 1-7. UPDATE: I earned a 5, and was able to skip a course!
These pieces are in order of creation, from fall of my junior year to spring of my senior year.
